The second problem with material control is due to the elements of rain and sun. Contractors will be quick to point out that a hefty percentage of materials are unfit to use due to becoming wet and swelling or warping because of intense sunlight. In a factory, it is much simpler to protect materials from weather, thieves, and vandals.
* Not dependent on daylight – If production needs to increase, employing another shift is no problem. Work can be performed around the clock if necessary.
* Better finished product – If everything stays in a conditioned area until it is moved to its foundation, some materials are not going to be wet, become warped, split, or lose structural integrity because of exposure. In normal conditions, materials may be in good shape when they are installed, but sudden changes in weather can result in damages that may not be visible.
* Better overall work production – Much the same as the production lines in automobile plants, many workers do repetitive tasks that require the same tools and materials. This helps them achieve faster speeds in getting the work finished. Tools do not have to be taken down and put away at the end of day’s work either, which saves twenty minutes or more in a work shift.
All of these advantages relate to ways that save time and money. Because these savings are tangible enough to be almost guaranteed on every project, manufacturers can incorporate them into the bottom line and the result should be less cost to the homeowner. This is a win-win situation for the homeowner and the manufacturer, and if the general contractor decides to use this service, it should offer an advantage to him, too.
